The Fifth international course: 'Basic Phacoemulsification' and 'IOL Calculation in Daily Clinical Practice'

Venue: Hilton Hotel, Belgrade

The Fifth International Course, organized by the Association of Cataract, Refractive, and Corneal Surgeons of Serbia (ACRCS), will be held on June 20, 2026, at the Hilton Hotel in Belgrade. 

The first part is intended for “Basic phacoemulsification”, and the second for “IOL calculation in daily clinical practice”. 

It is planned to do up to 60 implants on three workstations.

The course is primarily intended for doctors on specialization and young ophthalmologists.

The participants of this course, after completing the application, will receive precise dates when they will work in the operating unit, with the assistance of the best cataract surgeons in Serbia. The course will be conducted with the models of renowned world companies.

The number of participants is limited.

Third international course: 'Basic Phacoemulsification' and 'IOL Calculation in Daily Clinical Practice'

Date: November 17th-18th, 2025
Venue: Hilton Hotel, Belgrade

The Third International Course, organized by the Association of Cataract, Refractive, and Corneal Surgeons of Serbia (ACRCS), will be held on November 17 and 18, 2025, at the Hilton Hotel in Belgrade. The first day is designated for ‘Basic Phacoemulsification,’ while the second day is dedicated to ‘IOL Calculation in Daily Clinical Practice.’

Following registration, course participants will receive precise schedules for working in the operative unit, assisted by Serbia’s best cataract surgeons. The course will utilize models from renowned international companies and feature the latest devices for IOL calculation.

Instructional course: Complicated cataract - phacoemulsification in patients with posterior segment diseases

Duration: 6-8h
Venue: Special Hospital for Ophthalmology "Prof Dr Džinić”
The goal of the course is to acquaint participants with the principles of surgical treatment of cataracts in patients with accompanying diseases of the posterior segment of the eye (diabetic retinopathy, vascular occlusive diseases, senile macular degeneration…). The course will cover topics related to preoperative preparation of patients, lens calculations, selection of the appropriate type of lens, possibilities of applying adjuvant therapy during operative treatment as well as postoperative monitoring and recovery.

Instructional course: 3D “Heads up” surgery

Duration: 6-8h
Venue: Special Hospital for Ophthalmology "Prof Dr Džinić”
The aim of the course is to familiarise participants with the basics of 3D “Heads up surgery”, the principle of operation, and the layout of the operating room. The emphasis will be on the process of transition and the process of switching to a digital visualisation system. The participants will be able to get a trial in the operation theatre and get the first experiences and feel of using this system.

Instructional course: Therapeutic laser refractive surgery

Duration: 6-8h
Venue: Special Hospital for Ophthalmology “Profesional”
Attendees will get familiar with di9erent modalities of therapeutic corneal laser surgery and procedures like combined Transepithelial PRT/PTK and corneal cross linking procedures in patients with keratoconus, and with PTK and customized corneal wavefront PRK procedures for treatment of corneal scars.
Course will cover indications, procedures selection, postoperative follow up and results, and complications.

Instrcution course: Refractive lens exchange

Duration: 6-8h
Venue: Special Hospital for Ophthalmology “Profesional”
Attendees will get familiar with refractive lens exchange procedures and presbyopia correction. Focus will be on patient selection, preoperative diagnostics and biometry, di4erent types of intraocular lenses, di4erences between them, IOL selection, postoperative results and enhancements and dealing with unhappy patients.

Instructional course: Management of complications - phacoemulsification

Duration: 6-8h
Venue: Special Hospital for Ophthalmology “Belgrade Ophthalmological Center”
The aim of the course is to introduce to the participants with complications that may arise during and after the surgical process of phacoemulsification. Explain the use of individual means to solve complications: types of viscoelastic, retractors for the capsule and iris, capsular rings (variety and size), the principles of anterior vitrectomy and the method of intra-ocular lens implantation in complicated cases.

Duration: 6-8h
Venue: Special Hospital for Ophthalmology “Belgrade Ophthalmological Center”
The goal of the course is to introduce participants to the basics of phacoemulsification. Acquaint the participants with the principle of work and the way of functioning of different phacoemulsification systems. Process the individual steps of a surgical procedure. Types of incision, capsulorrhexis, phacoemulsification techniques and intra-ocular lens implantation.
